5 Most Important Driver Fitting Parameters

If you are in need of a new driver in 2022, it’s important to go for a golf driver fitting. A driving fitting will help narrow down not just the club head but the shaft as well. However, before you head into your fitting, try to have a few things in mind that you will want to look out for. Of course, the total distance is important, but there are some other key driver fitting parameters to keep in mind as you go through the fitting process.

Distance

Total distance is something that all golfers should be able to clearly understand after a driving fitting. Typically speaking, the golf driver that helps you hit the ball the furthest total distance will be the one you end up going with long term. Of course, the dispersion rates you find from our driver fitting are also important. If one driver travels a few yards less, but you hit it straight every time, this is also a good solution for your game.

Shaft Length

Shaft length is not always thought of as a fitting parameter when looking at a new driver, but it should be. Standard shaft lengths are typically around 45.5 inches currently, but they can be longer or shorter depending on what works for a specific player.

Talk to your True Spec fitting specialist about different shaft length options and how they will impact your game. Sometimes experimenting is the best way to know what it feels like to control a longer driver.

Launch Angle

It is easy to see the loft that your driver comes with, but the launch angle is a bit of a different parameter. To get proper distance and carry, you will need to a driver with the ideal launch angle. When a ball is hit too low, the carry will be considerably less, and even roll may be impacted by the grass, dirt, and hills or bumps the ball encounters.

If you have too high of a launch angle, you can imagine that there is little roll when the driver lands in the fairway. In addition, a high launch angle leaves the ball suspectable to the wind. Your True Spec golf fitting specialist will help you determine the ideal launch angle for your ball speed.

Spin Rate

The slower swinging player typically need a slightly higher spin rate to get the distance they need. Higher swing speed players tend to generate more spin than they need. Spin can be tricky, and there are a lot of factors that will impact it. However, when making the switch from one driver to another, big changes in spin rates are common.

Attack Angle

The attack angle on a driver is considerably different than that of an iron. The ball is struck on the upswing with the driver instead of the downswing. Most golfers will want an attack angle that is more than 3 degrees. The driver loft and attack angle will both be analyzed, and they will play into the launch angle as well.

Driver fittings can be extremely beneficial; however, you must ensure that you have an understanding of this information before you go in. Take your time with your True Spec Master Fitting Professional to learn as much as possible about the game and your strengths and weaknesses.
