I honestly can't say enough great things about my fitting at True Spec. Clay Joiner was excellent, best experience I could have asked for. I am a high handicapper wanting to consistently break 90 with plans to keep working on improving my game. Know enough about my swing and what right and wrong to do to not need complete game improvement set up but not dialed in for blades or similar shot shaping needs. I had previously been fitted by a small local fitter about 6 years ago. That experience was fine in the moment but in hindsight a complete sham. I basically walked in with my credit card number on my forehead next to the word sucker. At that fitting I hit only driver and 7 iron, poorly most of the time, and walked out with a full set even though I never hit a wood, rescue, or wedge (should have been a warning sign back then). For the last 6 years as I have finally been trying to play better I noticed these clubs were off, they felt like fighting any good swing mechanics and were built only to allow contact with ball with my previously worst golf swing (still not good but was much worst). The experience I had with true spec was night and day. Clay and I spent as long as I wanted on every club I wanted, hit multiple shafts per club (never switched shafts first fitting and ended up with off the shelf shafts lengthened for my height). When Clay took my clubs and interrogated them he let me know they had lengthened them by a full inch longer than they stated they did (they added 1.5 inches when I only needed .5). The lie angles were messy, and just completely didnt fit my game, needs, swing, size, or speed. Even though some of my equipment seemed accurate to me on internet fittings (I know you did that too before finding this review), it turns out the stiffness was playing much stiffer than expected due to the grip and length addition so what was supposed to be stiff was playing XS. Lie anlges made everything fly out to the right and stole any chance of distance. With the time we spent on irons, the flight, consistency, speed and distance all improved significantly over my clubs, feel improved, stance and angles all improved, just night and day. We then moved on to driver which started as a disaster as I couldn't find the face to save my life. Clay was patient and new we would find the right shaft and club head to straighten out some slices. By the end of the driver fitting there was an extra 30 yards of carry, better grouping, consistent ball flight and direction. Still tons of gains to be made but a great starting point to build off of, vs my usually 30 balls to beat a slice into submission only to hit it straight but lose 40 yards in the process through spin. After driver I figured it would be a one size for other woods, nope each wood, its overall value to my game and gapping, different shafts, lie adjustments, everything was built on each club. At no point was there club bias or sales pitch, no brand went unhit. It would have been easy to say I could actually hit the bettinardi's that look so nice but just frankly didn't swing as well as Taylormades. Or that my best driver, wood, shot shape was actually with a titleist and not the usual callaway/taylormade stallwarts, though I tried all of them in the process. Then we moved onto the hybrids to find where my comfort level from wood to hybrid to iron fit best ( I previously was told I basically wasn't good enough to game a 3 wood or hit an iron longer than a 6 iron). INstead we ended up finding unbelievable consistency with a 3 and 5 wood and ended up with just a single hybrid in the bag, I previously gamed up to 3! Interesting enough the hybrid was a different brand than my other woods and also different than my irons. When we went down to wedges we looked at flight and feel and instead of being sold 3 vokeys, ended up with just one really great feeling callaway 54 to fit with my pitch and a wedge from taylormade. Again, TLDR version is highly recommend True Spec and Clay Joiner Specifically.

Experience starts and finishes with the fitter. Clay by far exceeded my expectations for the fitting. Facility wasn’t to shabby either, seemed to have all the latest tech and was very comfortable environment. Clay was patient with warmups and getting me through bad strikes and swings. Explained all the data and what he needed to make his next decision for fit. Was open to my preferences and gave feedback to what may or may not work. No pressure at the end of the fitting to purchase anything but also ran through the benefits of doing so with Truspec. Can’t wait for my clubs to arrive.
