Some NFL players are scratch golfers, and others have just picked up the game. Jakobi Meyers, who plays for the New England Patriots, recently stopped by for a golf club fitting with one of our True Spec Master fitting professionals. Meyers is new to the game, and this had a tremendous impact on the way his fitting went and the clubs that he chose. Let’s look at what we learned from this fitting and what clubs ended up in Jakobi Meyer’s bag.

True Spec Club Fitting for Jakobi Meyers (Key Takeaways)

Watching golf club fittings and seeing how they impact players’ games can be very entertaining. When you see how a slight change in a shaft or clubhead can truly change a player’s game, it’s hard not to be amazed by the power of technology. Here are a few of the key takeaways from the True Spec club fitting with Jakobi Meyers.

Beginners Should Get Fitted

Meyers is a new golfer, but he will miss out on power and accuracy if he does not get his game set up with the proper clubs from the start. In fact, playing with the wrong clubs from the beginning can also make players develop bad habits.

Club Head Speed Is Not Everyone’s Problem

Jakobi Meyers is a strong golfer. He gets plenty of clubhead speed and although we want to get him as much distance as possible, sometimes taking a few yards off of total distance and focusing more on accuracy is important for these faster swing speed players.

The Callaway driver, that was slightly draw biased, helped him straighten shots out without taking away the distance that is exciting to have as a beginner player.

Mix Clubhead Brands but Keep Shafts Consistent

Some golfers can play with one brand from the driver down to the wedges and be satisfied with the performance. Other players need a mix of brands. For Meyers, it was clear that a mix of brands would be necessary to get him clubs that would work from the driver to the wedge.

One thing master fitting professionals know how to do so well is matching the shaft with the club head. For Meyers, keeping consistency in the wood shafts, as well as consistency in the iron and wedge shafts, made complete sense.

What’s In The Bag Jakobi Meyers

Throughout the fitting, it was clear that various brands would be the best solution for Jakobi Meyers. Trying to be entirely brand loyal here was not possible with the stats he was getting. This mixed set with the following clubs will give him the best chance to get out of beginner stages and start playing some more competitive rounds.

Driver: Callaway Rogue Rogue ST Max D with Graphite Design Tour AD Silver 75 Grams

Fairway Woods: Callaway Rogue Rogue ST Max D with Graphite Design Tour AD Silver 75 Grams
