The idea of a proper golf club fitting caught on quickly for drivers, irons, and even wedges. However, it took the golf world several years to catch up for the proper putter fitting to be put into place. There are some important putter-fitting parameters that will, without a doubt, impact your ability around the green. If you are headed in for a True Spec putter fitting, think about some of these fitting parameters and ask your True Spec Master Professional where your stats stand.

Putter Length

Even with all of the great launch monitor tools we have to measure unique stats and percentages, putter length is still the most important putter fitting parameter. If your golf putter is not the proper length, the performance on the greens will be lacking. Putter length is typically based on your height and arm length.

However, there are certain features to a dynamic putter fitting that will also impact the length of the putter. If your putting stroke and stance are unique and call for a shorter or longer putter length, then adjustments can be made.

Club Speed

Club speed may not seem as though it matters as much in putting, but players will need a good amount of speed to create proper roll and have a high MOI. The club speed necessary will vary depending on the type of putter being used and the style of the putting stroke. However, club speed will impact ball speed and the roll of the putt.

Lie Angle

The putter lie angle is something that is easily customized. With the lie angle, perfect golfers have a much easier time making square and consistent contact with the golf ball. Similar to the length, during a putter fitting, you can also get a dynamic lie angle measurement. This will help ensure that your lie angle is not just correct when addressing the ball but through the impact position.

Lie angle can typically be changed on your current putter in case that is an issue you are struggling with currently.

Face To Path

The face angle of a golf club compared to the path of the club is the face to path. When determining why a golfer misses putts, the face to path angle is incredibly important. Although square is always the goal, there are certain players that can repeat a stroke with a slightly open or closed face and play quite well.

Head Weight

The head weight of a putter can impact feel, consistency, and MOI. A True Spec Master Fitter will likely talk to you about the types of greens you plan on and how the weight will impact your game. Generally speaking, a faster green requires more weight in the club head to help ensure a true and strong roll.

The proper putter fitting parameters are essential for players that understand the importance of this part of the game. Great putting can make or break your round on the golf course, and sometimes small tweaks to your putting stroke will make all the difference.
